Cooperation on first steps toward quantum computing
Published on March 28, 2023
In cooperation with Mercedes-Benz AG, DYNAmore GmbH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU, a comprehensive workshop on applied quantum computing in the CAE environment was held at ARENA2036 on December 14, 2022. As a first step, the goal was to develop the basics of applied quantum computing and to communicate and understand the fundamentally different ways of thinking and computing. In the second step, initial approaches to algorithm development for solving thermal problems in production engineering were developed and the basic use for applications in FEM simulation systems was evaluated. After this initial start-up workshop, specific implementations are now being carried out in small project teams and the know-how in QC algorithm development is being further deepened. With Mercedes-Benz AG as a partner, industry-related problems are addressed. DYNAmore and Mercedes-Benz AG are now jointly launching the use of quantum computing for CAE calculations. They are supported by the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU.
André Haufe from DYNAmore says: "In this workshop, we were able to learn about the fundamentally different approach to programming quantum computers. We will actively support the technology within the framework of the cooperation with Mercedes-Benz AG and Fraunhofer IWU and contribute practical issues and know-how where necessary and possible. However, we are aware that the road to commercial application - certainly initially in hybrid systems - will still be a long one."
